Simply Cyn

Simply Cyn, the mastermind behind the deliciously inspiring blog SimplyCyn.com was kind enough to answer a few questions about her blog, style and that enviable hair.

1. Your blog, Addicted 2 Etsy, is partially dedicated to your personal style, beauty and things you love on the site ETSY.com. What inspired you to start blogging?

Well, it was all so unplanned and random. It all started around my wedding, I was trying to save money and I also wanted to infuse everything with a more personal handmade touch. A girlfriend told me about Etsy and I became hooked. I spent so many hours on that site and I realized there were so many talented people on there making amazing things…so I actually first started blogging because I wanted to share cool finds etc.

Of course over the years the blog has evolved and now it’s about a lot more than that. The blog has become more personal and I can share other things I love like travel, food, fashion, music etc.

2. Many aspiring bloggers reading this may be wondering how to follow in your footsteps. What’s been your most valuable lesson since blogging?

If you enjoy the process, do it. Don’t worry about who or how many people are reading. If your content is good, the eyeballs will come. Write about what you like, that way you’ll stay motivated, if you try to do somebody else, you’ll tire very quickly.

3. Who’s taking all those fabulous photos of you? How often do you guys shoot?

My hubby takes every single pic of me. When we travel I try to take over the camera for travel stuff. Because of our work schedules, we can only take pics over the weekend. Sometimes, it’s something I’m wearing for the day, other times, its an outfit I previously wore that I want to share.

4. What 5 words would you use to describe your style?
Chill, Chic, Laidback w/ a touch of Glam, Fun.

5. You’re an attorney by day and blogger by night! Does your style differ when you’re on the 9-5 clock?

Yup it does, I tend to be more preppy or classic for work. I wear suits for court, try to jazz it up with accessories, color and jewelry. My office isn’t overly formal so I can get away with more casual options, but I have several blazers and pumps in my office just in case I need to do a quick change for a meeting etc.

6. Your hair is perfection! What product would you be lost without?

Shea Moisture Raw Shea butter conditioner. I can fool around with different shampoos etc, but after I wash my hair, that is always the first thing that goes into my hair…and I can hear my hair just going “aaaahhhh”.

7. For many naturals it’s a journey to fully understand their hair. It’s a process of trial and error. What was your “Curls Understood™” moment (the moment you felt like, “I’ve got this!”)

It probably happened when I wasn’t paying attention. I think one day I was complaining and then next thing I knew I wasn’t – although I do have my wash day moments. One of my biggest concerns with going natural was the whole thing of you cant be a natural and look professional. Learning how to use bobby pins to do all kinds of conservative and professional updos was a Curls Understood™ moment, cos I was learning how to style and manipulate my hair.

I should also add that I attended a panel of top TV executives last year, top women in their game and many of whom were African American and all of whom but one were natural (including BET’s Debra Lee). It was really reassuring and I think seeing that others are doing it, makes you feel like if they got this, then I got this too.
