How Often Should I Deep Condition?

Hello, beautiful souls! I’m Jasmine from Heythatsjaz.wordpress.com. My site is a lifestyle blog that was made to inspire, teach, unite, and bring smiles to all the beautiful faces. From faith, love, hair, confidence, food and more, this blog will help you live a beautiful, healthy lifestyle inside and out.

I started transitioning in August 2012 and became 100% natural this past July 2014. When I first started to transition, I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. I had to do a lot of research to educate myself on how to keep my hair moisturized, how to detangle, what products to use, etc. Even though I’m still learning, I kind of have the hang of things. One thing I’ve learned and can’t stress enough is that you have to DEEP CONDITION, DEEP CONDITION, DEEP CONDITION!

Why Should I Deep Condition?

During these freezing winter months, especially in the New York/New Jersey area, deep conditioning is essential. I can’t go through my wash days without using a good deep conditioner to treat my luscious curls.

Deep conditioning brings your hair back to life after facing a harsh environment. It’s vital to your hair’s health, helps with maintaining your hair during wash days, adds moisture, heals, strengthens, and can also prevent breakage while styling.

Trust me, your elasticity, moisture level, and overall hair health will improve when you incorporate deep conditioning into your regimen.

How Often Should I Deep Condition?

I wash my hair every 3-5 days and deep condition every time.Yes, it prolongs wash day, but it’s completely worth it.

Ever since I decided to deep condition once a week, I saw major changes in my hair when it comes to growth, elasticity, strength, and manageability. After co-washing and detangling my hair with a conditioner with enough “slip,” I section my hair into four sections, apply the deep conditioner and detangle each section, put a plastic cap on (with a towel over it to trap the heat under the cap) and let it sit for as long as I can.

Once I rinse it out with cool to lukewarm water, my curls are full of life. They’re poppin’, and my hair is easy to manage when styling. Even when I choose to shampoo, the deep conditioner helps replenish the lost oils and moisture from my hair and scalp.

There are many different types of deep conditioners that serve a specific purpose. Use deep conditioners (or any product for that matter) that will cater to whatever it is your hair needs. Taking care of yourself by taking care of your hair helps in contributing to ones self-confidence. Your hair may not agree to all of the products out in the natural hair world, but once you find products that your hair loves, you’re good to go.
