Beauty of the Week: Persia Saviss

long wavy curly hairstyles

It’s not hard to see why our latest Beauty of the Week is a professional hair model – her curly long locks are the stuff of dreams. When we spotted Persia on Instagram we were keen to learn how she maintains her huge curly mane. Persia hails from Middle East but is based in the States now and this Loyola Marymount University Alumni is a realtor when not in front of the camera.

1. How long have you been wearing your hair in its curly/natural state?

I have been wearing my hair curly since I was 11! Before then I used to brush it out because no one at my school had curls. I learned over time to embrace my curls and love them.

2. Can you summarize your current hair regimen?

I wash my hair twice a week and condition it 3 times a week. I condition more of course because my curls need it and if I don’t detangle my long hair so much it would be a disaster. I deep condition regularly to put moisture back into my curls.

3. What are your staple hair products?

Taliah Wajjid and Mixed Chicks hair products. I avoid any alcohol based products like gels, mousses etc, anything that makes my hair hard I will not use.

4. What are your favorite hairstyles?

My favorite hairstyle is to just wear it down. With curls you don’t have to do much but wash and go!

5. What was the last compliment you received about your hair? Do you get a lot of attention because of your hair?

“You have the prettiest curls, what do you use?” – I get that all the time. I feel weird answering this question, but I do get a lot of attention because of my hair. I get compliments every where I go which is so nice. :)

6. Who’s your celebrity curly hair crush?

I would have to say Shakira! Shakira is a woman that is also part Lebanese and she embraces that side of her culture by wearing her natural curls and doing her belly dancing. She’s my hair crush because she’s confident with who she is. It’s a beautiful thing. I also love her hair color.

7. For many naturals it’s a journey to fully understand their hair. It’s a process of trial and error. What was your “Curls Understood™” moment (the moment you felt like, “I’ve got this!” or any essential advice you wish you had known at the beginning of your hair journey)?

I’m a mix of the Middle East: Persian, Turkish, Lebanese and Egyptian. A lot of people from the Middle East like to straighten their hair. I like to wear it curly 98% of the time. I believe that they appreciate curly hair most of the time, however we live in a society where people really love to wear their hair straight. One time this Middle Eastern guy told me he liked my hair better straight and I took it as an insult. To each his own, right?

As for my “Curls Understood™” moment. It’s all about using the product that works for you and letting your hair air dry. That’s what works best for me. It’s really that simple!
