Beauty of the Week: Linea Johnson

locs hair care

If you still needed proof that Black hair can grow, look no further than this week’s beauty. Linea Johnson has been growing her locs since she was a child and hair length is nothing short of amazing. She’s also utterly gorgeous so it should come as no surprise that she models – we love that she’s also representing the natural community in the fashion world. Below she share her locs hair care routine.

1. Why did you decide to loc your hair? How long have you been locing your hair?

I’ve been locked since I was three years old. My mother decided that she wanted my entire family to be natural. I’ve been natural for all of my life and I’ve had locs for twenty years! This is my third set of locs.

2. Can you summarize your current hair regimen?

I wash my hair about every two weeks. I use shampoo and conditioner and oil my scalp occasionally. I use Crème of Nature Argan Oil Perfect Edges to moisturize my scalp. I also use Crème of Nature’s Argan Oil Moisture and Shine Shampoo and Conditioner to upkeep my locs. Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Milk Shine & Hold Mist is what I use to also moisturize my scalp.

3. What are your staple hair products?

I use Crème of Nature Perfect Edges for up keep. It is LOVE. I also use Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Hair Spray to add some shine and moisture to my hair.

4. What are your favorite hairstyles?

I like to put my hair all the way up to avoid it getting into my face and if I don’t have time I tie it all back with my hair.

5. For many naturals it’s a journey to fully understand their hair. It’s a process of trail and error. What was your “Curls Understood” moment (the moment you felt like, “I’ve got this!” or any essential advice you wish you had known at the beginning of your hair journey)?

I fully started to understand my hair during my junior year of college. I’ve finally gotten acclimated to how unpredictable it can be. As for advice, I would say STICK IT OUT. The stage at the beginning can be very crucial. Your hair is going to be going in all kinds of directions when you first start your locs. Once it reaches a certain length, it’ll be smooth sailing from there.
