April 23rd was definitely one of the biggest highlights for me as a naturally curly girl as I was able to attend the 19th annual World Natural Healthy & Beauty Show presented by the one and only Taliah Waajid. Seeing hundreds of women of all ages come together to express how proud they are of their natural hair is something I will never forget.
I went to the show with the intention of scouting out all the newest and greatest natural hair products from brands such as SheaMoisture and Creme of Nature, but I was specifically on the hunt for a great mousse and I certainly found it when I landed at the Luster’s booth.
Luster’s, which is a brand we all have come to know and love because of its Pink Moisturizing Lotion, was promoting their “YOU Be-Natural” line at the show, which I hadn’t heard of prior to the show. Their product line boasted a Botanical Curl Perfect Forming Mousse, which was just what I was looking for and it was only $5.
I was initially drawn to this product because it is made with a blend of argan and coconut oils, which are known to leave hair feeling soft and looking hydrated and defined. Before I applied the product to my hair, I did what most people do and smelled it. In my opinion, the styling mousse had a fragrance that closely mimicked that of a sweet and sugary candy without being overwhelming.
When it came time to apply the product to my hair, I had already washed and conditioned using OGX Quenching Coconut Curls Shampoo and Conditioner, detangled with Taliah Waajid Tangles Out Today, and applied a bit of Mixed Chicks leave-in conditioner. Since I was doing a three strand twist-out that night, I then followed the instructions on the packaging specifically for twist-outs that indicates users should remoisten each section with the foam, combing through to the ends as you are twisting and forming. I let my twists dry overnight and then took them out in the morning while getting ready.
Immediately, I could see that my curls had an absolutely amazing shine and were very moisturized. The amount of frizz I saw was also minimal, which is always a win for us curly girls. Additionally, the product didn’t leave my hair with any stickiness or flakiness, which I have experienced with some foaming mousses before.
This product really worked well for me and I am eager to continue implementing it into my wash routine to see how my hair reacts to the mousse over time. I would give this product a strong 8 as it did provide my hair with a lot of moisture and shine, however I wish it provided my curls with a bit of a stronger hold.
