I’ve constantly been on the search for the most efficient way to straighten my natural hair without damaging it until recently. Jumping from video to video on YouTube, I came across a “Straightening Natural Hair Routine” video that featured a hair styling tool, the straightening brush. I had never heard of a straightening brush before. So I decided to research what a straightening brush was and to my surprise, they are everywhere! How did I not know about this?
From Sally’s to Sephora, anyone can get his or her hands on this product and I highly recommend doing so. I personally got my straightening brush, the Denman Thermo Ceramic Straightening Brush from Sally Beauty Supply for about $14, but they generally cost anywhere from $7 to $20 depending what store you buy from, whether it is bought online or in store, etc. A great deal for the best straightening results in my opinion!
The straightening brush is shaped just like a flat iron, but instead of the ceramic plates, there are a lot of hard, stiff bristles on both sides. The idea is that the thick bristles glide through each strand of hair making sure each strand of hair has been straightened. It is designed to be used as you would a flat iron, but during the blow-drying and flat-ironing processes.
For example, the “chase method”, which is a technique used to achieve sleek and silky straight hair. If any of you naturals have heard of the chase method, you know exactly how to use this product. For the chase method, you begin by slowly moving your brush down the section of hair closely in front of the flat iron. Your brush should be in front of the flat iron.
This is the same method used for the straightening brush, except you’re using this tool instead. It is a fairly easy process, although it may take a bit more time, it is completely worth it. My hair has not been this straight since I became completely natural when putting relaxers in it. I hope this helps anyone who is in the market or who has been on the lookout for the holy-grail product, because this is definitely a staple in my collection!
