Oyin Handmade: Boing!

This summer Oyin Handmade introduced a new product to their line-up and oh how I love new products to experiment with! Boing promises to “showcase your texture at its most exuberant, well-conditioned, softly defined best!”… well alrighty then. We can’t be mad at that!

I’m a kinky girl with fine hair at medium length. So bare that in mind when reading this review.

First of all I love the smell of this product – sweet but not overpowering. I applied it to damp hair and did two-strand twists. I slept and in the morning I undid my twists. The product holds true to its name! The curls from my twist out were poppin’!

That night I retested my hair into much bigger twists but without using product. The next day the curls were practically gone :( The twist out was also quite “crunchy” and dry which may have contributed to the twists not lasting. I need a little moisture in my hair to get the best curls. I will say, however, that this happens to me a lot. My hair is quite fine which means my hair has a hard time holding curls.

I’ll also knock some points off my review for the white residue this product left behind at my roots. Not sure if I used too much product but I used the same amount I usually use for twist outs.

I’ll still give this product a 7 because the initial results were great. Perhaps I’ll play around with my technique to see if I can get different results. Maybe try it on dry hair. I’m not one to shelve a product after one use.
