Founded by friends and sisters Dawn, Naoj and Robin, Natural Splendor is a new product line that was “conceived with a commitment to providing quality natural hair care products”. Their premiere product is the Natural Splendor Curl Conditioning Cream formulated for Lightly Coiled (Coily) and Tightly Coiled (Kinky) hair types.
The product has the words “conditioning” in its name but it can actually be used for conditioning and styling. Hey, I’m all about the multi-purpose use… a sista likes to save money. So I washed and deep conditioned my hair and applied the Curl Conditioning Cream for Tightly Coiled hair. For those who don’t know, I have Kinky hair so I tried the Tightly Coiled formula.
My hair was still wet when I applied the product. I lightly spritzed my hair with warm water after I finished applying the product to my entire head to encourage my hair cuticles to open up (I trick I learned since I discovered my kinky texture does not opens its cuticle layers easily).
I’ve used this product twice now as a leave-in conditioner and it has left my hair feeling extremely soft which I love! However, I could never use this product for just styling. My hair type needs a product with stronger hold to make my curls last. Gels are a must as part of my styling routine. Just using a cream alone won’t encourage my curl pattern. That said, if achieving a curl pattern via a twist/braid out or wash ‘n’ go isn’t your goal then perhaps this will work for your styling needs.
One major downside is the price. At $42 for a 12oz per jar you’d be forgiven for hesitating before purchasing. I would suggest buying a sample before making a final decision. I purchased my sample via my We Are Onyx subscription.
