Curly Kids Wash Day Regimen

curly kids wash day regimen

I’m by no means a hair expert, but I have a two-year-old son with a head full of curls that can be a struggle to manage. Here’s our curly kids wash day regimen for keeping his soft, beautiful curls looking their best.

1.
Wash day is limited to 1-2x a week to prevent his hair from drying out. Of course I shampoo more frequently if needed, spending how dirty he may get. Our favorite product is Curly Kids Hair Care Super Detangling Shampoo and Conditioner.

2.
It’s so important to make wash time fun. My son loves bath time, but hates getting his hair washed. I use toys to distract him and let him help me rinse his curls with the portable shower. I highly recommend the Nuby Tear-Free Rinse Pail, it’s a must for keeping shampoo out of his eyes.

3.
The Wet Brush has been a lifesaver for getting the tangles out. After washing, I let the conditioner sit for 10 minutes or so. Then I brush out his hair in sections, using the Wet Brush and/or a wide tooth comb.

4.
After washing and conditioning, I put a DROP of Dr. Bronner’s Coconut Oil or Curly Kids Curl Defining Lotion into his hair. Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk is also another of my favorite products.

5.
DJ’s hair is long it tangles easily. Before bedtime I section his hair into four parts and create four small braids.

6.
In the morning I take out the braids and refresh his hair with a little spray of water and a drop of moisturizer, or any brand of detangler. I use my fingers to comb the water and product through.

7.
I take DJ once a month for a trim. I’ve found that by keeping his hair trimmed, the tangles are a lot easier to manage.
