Beauty of the Week: Danielle Bunting

big natural hair curls

Danielle is one of our first Curly Ambassadors. We came across Danielle on Instagram and loved the diversity of her hairstyles and her edgy photo shoots too. You have to check out her newly launched blog Just Bloom Magazine. It’s filled with great fashion and beauty tips!

1. Why did you go natural? How long have you been natural?

I decided to return natural hair about four years ago and did two big chops along the way. When I say big chop I mean BIG CHOP with a completely shaved head. What made me return to natural was that I was in a place in life where I was lost and wanted a fresh start. My big chop is what I called my rebirth.

2. Can you summarize your current hair regimen?

Right now I’m on a protective style challenge so my hair is tucked away until January. But in between styles I deep condition throughout the entire day usually with Shea Moisture’s Yucca & Baobab Anti-Breakage Masque. Recently I’ve been in love with their new Jamaican Black Castor Oil Masque as well. Prior to deep conditioning my hair I finger detangle with organic coconut oil which you can find at Traders Joe’s for about six bucks. I follow by rinsing my hair with Apple Cider Vinegar. I then apply any conditioner of my choice. Usually I’ll grab Aussie Moist conditioner or even Trader Joe’s Tea Tingle conditioner. Finally, I’ll apply the deep conditioner or masque to my hair section by section.

3. What are your staple hair products?
My staple hair products are Water, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera Gel, Kinky Curly Knot Today and my raw shea butter mixture.

4. What are your favorite hairstyles?

My favorite hairstyle is actually the pineapple. I love when my hair is all pushed up giving me a sleek edgy look.

5. For many naturals it’s a journey to fully understand their hair. It’s a process of trial and error. What was your “Curls Understood™” moment (the moment you felt like, “I’ve got this!” or any essential advice you wish you had known at the beginning of your hair journey)?

My advice: Enjoy every phase and learn to embrace your curl pattern not your hair crushes. Also stay away from hair dye (I learned the hard way lol).
