Beauty of the Week: Breanna Baker

curly coily natural hair

Breanna Baker, otherwise known as Bre, reached out to us for a Beauty of the Week feature and when we saw her gorgeous locks there’s no way we could decline. Bre admits her curly coily natural hair, “has been through some very interesting phases” but she could have fooled us. Learn how she’s been able to master her mane…

1. Why did you go natural? How long have you been natural?
My hair has been natural since birth, but I straighten my hair with a flat iron every 3-6 months just for the fun of it. Being natural fits me perfectly.

2. Can you summarize your current hair regimen?
I shampoo once a week, run my fingers through my hair with conditioner, and start from the ends working my way to my roots. Then I wrap my hair in a bun while wet and conditioned and wait 3-5 minutes. When I let my hair down from the bun, I run my fingers through it a few more times so that it wont dry completely out.

3. What are your staple hair products?
• Aussie, Aussie, and Aussie! (shampoo, conditioner, and mousse)
• Pantene mousse or gel
• Miracle in 10 serum

4. What are your favorite hairstyles?
My Top 5 are…
• Wild and free
• Mohawk french braid with curly fro free sides
• Buns (side, top, princess lea slick, messy)
• Half up half down with French braid sides
• Half twisted, half free curls

5. For many naturals it’s a journey to fully understand their hair. It’s a process of trial and error. What was your “Curls Understood™” moment (when did you really start to understand your hair)?
The moment I got too lazy to wash my hair every other day. From then on my hair was not as dry. I began washing it once a week. At first it freaked me out because I’m extremely active and thought I need to wash my hair everyday to keep it clean, but then I decided I could do a light rinse every day and shampoo once a week. Now I love waking up everyday not knowing what my hair’s mood is going to be!
