Beauty of the Week: Kenvi Wesley

kinky curly natural hair

Kenvi is one of those naturals you look to and envy because she rocks her curly natural hair so effortlessly and her sense of style is on point. I defy anyone to look at her photos and question their decision to embark on their natural journey! We also love how Kenvi is not afraid to experiment with her hair. You’ll find lots of hairstyle inspiration on her social media accounts. Enjoy!

1. Why did you go natural? How long have you been natural?

I have been natural for 3 years now, I actually became natural by accident. As a college undergrad, I didn’t have time to keep up with my hair so I stopped getting relaxers. I fell in love with my natural hair pattern. After a year without chemicals, I cut my relaxed ends off & became fully natural.

2. Can you summarize your current hair regimen?

My hair regimen consists of washing/clarifying or cowashing, mostly. Thursdays are my wash day unless, I’m having a “good hair” week. I wash my hair with an actual shampoo maybe every two weeks to prevent any product build up. To maintain styles, I use a spray bottle with water, coconut oil & some type of custard or cream. Oh, and I can’t forget my satin bonnet.

3. What are your staple hair products?

I can’t get enough of any product by Shea Moisture, Aunt Jackie’s Curling Custard, African Pride’s leave-in conditioner and virgin coconut oil, of course.

4. What are your favorite hairstyles?

Some of my favorite hairstyles would include a classic twistout & a messy, curly high bun. Both styles can be dressed up or down.

5. For many naturals it’s a journey to fully understand their hair. It’s a process of trail and error. What was your “Curls Understood™” moment (the moment you felt like, “I’ve got this!” or any essential advice you wish you had known at the beginning of your hair journey)?

I can’t say if I’ve got it down as of yet but for the products I have tired, I know what works for my hair & what doesn’t. I’m constantly on the look out for new products to try but it is definitely trial & error. I am constantly discovering and learning about my hair.
