Aloe Vera for Stronger and Longer Hair

aloe vera for hair

Aloe Vera, a medicinal plant that has been used for the longest time to treat a variety of ailments (for example sunburns). Many of us have used, or at least heard of a product that contained Aloe Vera. Creams, drinks, deodorants, and lip balms are a few of the items marketed using the natural plant. However, although the plant contains a plethora of positive properties, many of its powers are watered-down when processed.

Personally, I’ve known about how useful the spikey plant can be for a long time. I would watch my mother go the front yard, cut off a piece, and warm it up on the stove in order to relieve my dad’s muscle pain. My grandmother would mix pieces of it with honey and lime, and feed me a spoonful every day when I got sick.

As time went on I learned more about how it could be used to cure acne, help with arthritis, and even improve digestion. Most of this information came from my mother, who received it from my grandmother, who learned it from her mother. Sadly, I cannot share everything my grandmother knows about “Sábila” in this article. Still, I would like to share two mixes that specifically target hair growth.

Because Aloe Vera contains vitamins such as A, C, E and various forms of vitamin B it is great for
promoting hair growth. These two treatments can also be used to take care of dandruff, moisturize, relieve an itchy scalp, and prevent hair from falling out as much. Here are 2 recipes that I swear by:

1. RAW ALOE VERA MASK

• Take a piece of Aloe Vera and, using a sharp knife, remove the spikes from the sides.
• Carefully cut the thin top and bottom layer (all the green stuff)
• Place all that is left (gel / transparent pieces) in a bowl and, using a fork, crush the pieces so that it all becomes a similar consistency.
• Apply to the scalp and then continue to use the mixture until it is distributed all over the hair.
• Cover with a plastic bag or shower cap and leave on for at least an hour.
• Rinse out

2. ALOE VERA DEEP CONDITIONER

a. Aloe Vera
b. Coconut oil
c. Honey

• Follow the first three steps of the previous process.
• Add coconut oil and honey
• Mix until the ingredients have been properly incorporated
• Apply to hair
• Cover with plastic bag or shower cap and leave on for at least one hour.
• Rinse out

The amount of each ingredient in the mixture depends on the person’s current volume and length. For example, someone with long, thick hair will probably need more than someone with a TWA. The person can also choose to add or remove ingredients depending on specific hair needs. I hope this is helpful and that everyone grows long, luscious, locks!
