Our favorite curly hipster is sharing with us her style secrets and it couldn’t be better timing! Who doesn’t need inspiration for Spring/Summer? Vashtie Kola, “Downtown’s Sweetheart”, is known for being a a creative artist, director, designer and bonified New York It Girl. We love that she’s getting some shine on the fashion voyeuristic sit The Coveteur.
As a kid I loved fashion and film. I was in 6th grade looking at Details Magazine and Vogue, practicing fashion sketches. Since my family couldn’t afford anything brand name and most of my clothes were hand-me-downs, I turned to the Salvation Army to buy vintage items and customize them.
And Vashtie was kind enough to break down how she gets those gorgeous curls in check…
For hair, I use Hugo & Debra Naturals Smooth and Defining Shampoo and Conditioner in coconut. My family is from Trinidad and coconut scented anything always wins my island heart! For styling I use Beautiful Curls leave-in Conditioner for Wavy to Curly Hair. I love it because it keeps my curls looking shiny and healthy. I wash with Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Castile Soap. I like the added chill the peppermint gives my skin, makes me feel extra clean. I moisturize with Almond Oil by Now Foods, which keeps my ashiness in check. Anyone who knows me knows I need that!
