Easy and Gentle Updos for Locs

As a mother of two, hairstylist, and social butterfly there are many events where I need to have my hair looking its absolute best. With long locs one may think it takes too long to create updos but it doesn’t at all. I have been growing my locs for approximately 7 years. I started locing my hair because I hated getting my hair done. I’m what people would call “tender-headed”. I’ve always disliked having my hair pinned-up with bobby pins or even rubber bands – it just hurts. So here are some tips on gentle and easy updo hairstyles for long locs.

I know there has to be more people out there who have the same grievances as me when it comes to tight hairstyles. That said, here are some suggestions on ways to create looks for a day at the park with your kids, a long day at work, or even an evening out on the town. They don’t require the use of pins and only 2 to no rubber band(s).

• The length of your locs determines what styles can be created but once your locs are at least 5-7 inches, a “pin-less” up do can be done.
• Find a professional/licensed cosmetologist for advice on the best way to style your loss. Depending on the type of locs you have certain undoes may be better than others.
• Make sure your hair is in great condition to pin-up, meaning it’s clean, conditioned, and moisturized (preferably using the HONEI DOO® Creme for Locing, Braiding, and Conditioning crème).
• Your locs don’t have to be freshly twisted to style in an updo.
• Have a few rubber bands on you only if your locs aren’t long enough to wrap around each other or tie (less than 5 inches.
• Style using horizontal parting sections – this will make styling easier.
• Don’t pull your hair too tight – especially your edges.
