10 Steps to Fake the Perfect Wash-n-Go

We’re all guilty of scrolling through Instagram, eyeing our hair crush, and getting a sudden case of curl envy. Why don’t my curls pop like this? How can I achieve fifth day hair with a hectic schedule? I have multi-textured hair, how do I get my curls to pop all over?

One day I decided that I wanted to achieve 5-7 day curls because I just couldn’t find the time to wash my hair as frequently as I had before balancing graduate school and working full time. I was able to go 7 days without washing my hair plus go to the gym which was refreshing. How did I do it? By faking the perfect wash-n-go. Here’s how I did it:

Step 1

Cleanse your hair using a sulfate-free shampoo or co-washing. It really doesn’t matter just as long as your hair is clean.

Step 2

Separate your hair into four sections then apply a water-based moisturizer from root to tips, keeping your hair in sections.

Step 3

Mix a bit of your leave-in conditioner with water in a spray bottle.

Step 4

Spray one section of the hair until soaking wet and apply a gel-like styling product through the hair from root to tip. Use your fingers to rake the product throughout the particular section of hair.

Step 5

Use cold rods or perm rods to roll your hair. Start at the tip of the hair and roll under about a 1/4 inch just to ensure that ends are curled under.

Step 6

Repeat steps 3-5 to throughout all of your hair.

Step 7

Once the ends of your hair are completely rolled, spray the roots of your hair with the spray bottle and apply a little bit of the gel to the top of your head to smooth out the scalp area.

Step 8

Air dry or sit under a dryer.

Step 9

Once your hair is fully dry, put a little oil on the tips of your fingers and carefully remove the rods from your hair. This will reduce some of the effects of manipulation.

Step 10

Separate each curl to achieve a fuller look. Use a pik to lift from the roots. Shake hair and go! Be sure to sleep with a silk scarf to protect and contain your hair at night.

I never thought of doing a wash-n-go this way! I have different curl patterns all over my hair and shrinkage is about 80%, meaning my hair shrinks up sooooo much lol! So I always avoid wash-n-gos. This technique sounds like a fun way to get my curls poppin!. I’ll try it out and write a review on my blog to share <3
