Why Drinking Water is the Key to Hair Growth

When people say “water is the key”, they’re really not joking! Water really is the best thing to ever happen to me, and is definitely the best thing that ever happened to my hair. When I increased my water intake, my hair became thicker, more moisturised and softer, which led to more length retention. This is in addition to my skin becoming clearer, my immune system improving and a bit of weight loss, if that’s what you’re going for.

Now, there’s one thing we need to get straight about our hair: hair is basically the lowest thing on the totem pole when it comes to nutrition. By this, I mean, hair is not necessary for one to live. Therefore, it gets the nutrients from the things we consume last.

So if you’re not drinking enough water, that little bit of water you do drink is only gonna go to the crucial parts of your body i.e. your organs, your skin. By the time this measly amount of water has been shared around the vital body parts, there isn’t much left over to benefit your hair! This is why you need to up the water intake if your aim is to get longer, stronger, healthier hair.

The amount of water you should be drinking is likely to vary depending on your age/height/weight but I personally would recommend 2-3 litres daily! And I know it’s hard if you’re not used to drinking that amount daily but take it slow. Don’t go from only drinking one glass of water to drinking a gallon of water overnight.

I would recommend 2-3 litres per day!

Gradually increase your water intake everyday and you’ll see a difference. And yes, when you first start drinking loads of water, you’re likely to be running to the restroom regularly.

But after a while, your body gets used to the high water intake and actually starts to crave water. Personally, I drink 3 litres of water daily (that’s roughly 100 fluid ounces or 0.8 gallons). I also drink herbal teas, like green tea and mint tea so it’s probably closer to 3.5/4 litres daily. And when I don’t drink my 3 litres, my body tells me instantly! I get headaches, my mouth gets very dry and I feel a bit more tired than usual.

So pleaseeee never forget just how important water is. And if you don’t want to drink it for your overall health, drink it for those beautiful locks. Stay hydrated people!
