I was really excited to try the Créme of Nature: Natural Oil Infused Hydrating Shampoo. Even though I am more of a c0-washing natural who only shampoos every 4-5 weeks, the idea of an oil-infused shampoo was too good to pass up.
My type 4 hair is prone to dryness and is very fragile. Most shampoos (even sulfate-free formulas) leave my hair feeling stripped. I was hoping the oils in this shampoo would cleanse my hair without any extreme dryness.
Before I shampooed, I detangled, put my hair into twists, and prepoo’d overnight. The next morning I was all set to shampoo with my new purchase.
I applied a dime-sized amount to the first section of hair and could already tell something was off. It didn’t smell very “natural,” it actually had a heavy perfume smell that I didn’t care for at all. I tried to focus the shampoo on my scalp, as I lathered my hair became more and more matted.
There was absolutely no slip factor and my hair quickly became dried out. After rinsing out the shampoo I noticed my hair was limp and didn’t have the squeaky clean feeling I’m used to post-shampoo. The product claims to work for all hair types, but this was definitely a “no” for my type 4 curls. The strangest part is although this formula claims to be “oil-infused,” the first oil is #14 on the list of ingredients.
To bring some moisture back into my hair, I applied a heavy deep conditioner and sat under a heated cap for about an hour. My advice to anyone wanting to try the Créme of Nature: Natural Oil-Infused Hydrating Shampoo would be to dilute it with water and have your best deep conditioner on standby.
