5 Awesome Products for Thick Curly Hair

products for thick curly natural hair

Whatever your hair’s curl pattern if you have thick hair finding products that last and will absorb into your hair is a challenge. So like a curly fairy Godmother, here I declare five products for thick curly natural hair. Tell use your favorites in the comment section below:

1

Qhemet Biologics Amla & Olive Heavy Cream

This cream is the BOMB. I stumbled upon it randomly on someone’s tumblr page and I was intrigued. I love any Ayurvedic ingredients/products and amla is one of these fabulous Ayurvedic ingredients. I was initially put off because it doesn’t have thattt much slip and it didn’t do much while my hair was wet. But when my hair dried?? Oh boy! I don’t think I’ve ever used a cream that imparts so much moisture to my hair.

It keeps my hair so soft and manageable. I particularly love to use this cream when it’s cold outside or when I’m about to install a protective style. It keeps my hair moisturized for dayssss! I would recommend using a light detangling cream beforehand though so it’s easier to work through the hair.

2

Camille Rose Naturals Almond Jai Twisting Butter

I think everyone knows about this fabulous product by now. It is extremely moisturising and softening.

It’s heavy enough to moisturise thick hair but light enough not to make it look greasy or weighed down. I use this for wash and gos, twist outs, braid outs and protective styles. And my favourite part – it smells incredible! It’s like a mixture between cake and waffles.

3

Giovanni Direct Leave-In Weightless Moisture Conditioner

This is one product I’ve been using from when I first went natural and I had no clue what to do with my hair. This product is great for thick hair naturals because it is so creamy and easy to work through the hair.

If you have thick hair, you know how important it is to have products that can easily be worked through the hair and this is one of them. It is very moisturising plus it is very affordable (it retails for $7.99 for 8.5 fluid ounces). And even on thick hair, a little goes a long way. I went as far as buying the massive 1 litre bottle and I just refill my smaller bottle from that. This is a staple for keeping my hair under control.

4

DevaCurl One Condition Original Daily Cream Conditioner

We all know DevaCurl is one of the most renowned curly hair brands so they certainly know what they’re doing when it comes to curly hair products. I think it might be a rinse out conditioner but I use it as a leave in, and it does the job like no other. It manages to tame my thick kinks and curls whilst maintaining volume and keeping my hair super soft.

It’s not the cheapest thing out there but it is certainly worth the price! And besides, in my book, using my pricier rinse out conditioners as a leave in gives me better value for my money. It actually creates some definition where there is none and it creates long-lasting moisture.

5

Kinky Curly Knot Today

If you haven’t heard about this product, you’ve definitely been living under a rock haha! This is another one of those light products that I was so sure wouldn’t work on my thick hair but this leave in shocks me every time. It has the most slip of any leave in I’ve ever used thanks to the marshmallow root in it.

I don’t know how they managed to formulate a product that works for the finer hair ladies and the thicker hair ladies but, Kinky Curly, you’ve managed to do it! I use this alone with an oil and styler for a wash and go or I layer it under a thicker cream (e.g. the Qhemet Biologics one above) and an oil for a twist/braid out or protective style.

SHOP THE PRODUCTS

Another cost-effective way I’ve discovered is signing up for ebates.com. It takes 30 seconds, is free and you get paid to shop! Yep, you read that right. Sign up via this affiliate link and automatically receive $10 in your account then receive cash back every time you purchase something through the ebates.com site.

I’ve been using the site to buy all my new hair products via Walgreens, Ulta Beauty, Sephora, Amazon and more. You can even search for a specific brand name. Bottom line is every purchase you make via the site, hair product or otherwise, you’ll get cash back (not just a discount… cash!!) So now you can use the money you earn over time to try new products or splurge on something else you deserve.
