Great products. Great Price!

This year’s Black Friday hair deals were just too good to pass up! I made it a point to only buy from Black owned businesses this year, so when my favorite castor oil brand had one of the most amazing deals, I couldn’t resist.

Tropic Isle Living is best known for their all natural Jamaican black castor oil, but they also have shampoo, conditioners, bath products and more!

The Black Friday deal was full size bottles of their four bestselling products for $20. Yes, twenty dollars! I jumped on it quick, fast, and in a hurry. Check out my review of each product and the run down of my wash day.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo

I’m trying to get more into shampoos, I think the Pantene cowash has really spoiled me. It turns out the Tropic Isle JBCO Shampoo with Shea Butter was better than I expected. It contains no sulfates, parabens, petroleum, mineral oil, artificial colors, or fragrances. It gently cleanses and removes any product build up without stripping away essential moisture.

I prepood and detangled first then washed my hair twice with the shampoo. A small amount went a very long way. It lathers great, and my hair was literally squeaky clean after I rinsed. Although my hair didn’t feel any softer after using it, it definitely felt clean and was noticeably shiny.

Strong Roots Red Pimento Hair Growth Oil

This was the product I was most excited about. I have weak spots throughout my head so I was really looking forward to trying the growth oil. The Tropic Isle Living Strong Roots Red Pimento Hair Growth Oil contains red pimento oil, JBCO, and coconut oil. It strengthens, thickens, and promotes hair growth.

After shampooing, I parted my hair into six sections and applied the oil directly on my roots. I then massaged each section for about 1-2 minutes to stimulate the follicles. You don’t need a lot of this oil, I was a little heavy handed and some of it was dripping down my neck and ears LOL. Since this is a hot oil treatment I decided to do the protein conditioner at the same time, this way I didn’t have to sit under my heating cap twice.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil Protein Conditioner

I use protein conditioners only once a month, so the 8oz jar will last me for a while. This conditioner contains mayo, JBCO, and avocado oil. It’s full of essential fatty acids, protein, and vitamins that restore dry and damaged hair. The smell isn’t the best (mostly because of the mayo) but since I was rinsing out after an hour, I figured the smell didn’t matter as long as it worked.

I applied the protein conditioner to the strands of my hair, really focusing on my ends. After my whole head was done, I put on a plastic cap and then sat under my heated cap for 30 minutes. Afterwards I rinsed out the conditioner and growth oil. My hair was super shiny! The growth oil acted as an oil rinse, which left my hair really moisturized and ready for styling.

Before I applied my leave-in, I took a few drops of the Jamaican Black Castor Oil and massaged that onto my edges and crown area. This is not a new step. I’ve been doing this every night since becoming natural and it keeps my edges growing and strong.

Overall I think the line of products are winners. I love supporting Black owned businesses and Tropic Isle Living is a really great brand. I thought I had some trouble with my package shipping and when I called customer service a woman named Karen was extremely nice and helpful. I’m definitely incorporating the growth oil in my weekly hair regimen. I’ll do an updated progress report in about 6 weeks and let you all know the results.
