5 Salon Tools Every Curly Gal Should Invest In

tools for natural hair care

Everyone who takes care of their hair knows that sometimes you have to make a little investment to get the best results. Whether it be your time, a good hot tool, or getting your hair professionally done every now and then at your favorite salon, it’s good to put the extra effort in when it comes to having healthy hair. Being fairly new to this curly life myself, 6 months since my big chop to be exact, here are some tools for natural hair care I feel are worth the investment. They’ve helped myself along with some other curly friends to better understand our curls.

1
Denman Brush

If you haven’t tried a Denman you might have been hiding under rock but its ok. These are great for clumping curls together, smoothing and distributing product. The best part is they have multiple kinds of brushes to fit your need and they are fairly inexpensive.

2
Diffuser

When you just can’t wait for your wash and go to hair dry a diffuser is the best thing for you. Not only does it help to speed up your drying time but helps to shape and hold your curls in place without causing frizz or over heating your hair.

3
Hooded Dryer
This is a tool that has been apart of my life long before I even considered transitioning. We all know the struggle of that twist out that just wasn’t quite dry yet. Having a hooded dryer can cut down styling and drying time tremendously giving us more time to actually enjoy our hair. They may be a pain to sit under but one of the best things about hooded dryers is you are not applying direct heat to your hair, meaning not having to worry about heat damage. Also not only can your hooded dryer be used for styling but giving your hair treatments that extra umph. You can find hooded dryers just about anywhere from drugstores to beauty supply stores and online in a range of prices so you’re sure to find one that fits your budget.

4
Steamer
This is one I don’t actually have myself but I definitely plan on putting money towards. You are sure to not look at deep conditioning the same after trying one of these. Steaming creates a humid environment perfect for moisturizing as opposed to natural dry air. The many benefits of investing and taking this extra step include increasing moisture retention, enhancing your curl definition, strengthens hair, opens the hair cuticle, and even promotes hair growth. Convinced yet?

5
Flat Iron
Last but not least for us naturals who want that straight sleek look from time to time, investing in the right flat iron could make all the difference. Finding a ceramic iron with controllable heat settings would be best. Also sitting under your hooded dryer like we spoke about previously and letting your hair dry stretched in either a roller set or twists put lets heat and stress on your hair while still achieving your desired look.
