1. What inspired you to start “The Tiny Closet”?

In 2011, I’d been laid off from a well paying job and my lifestyle came to screeching halt. I had gone from a routine of shopping every week, buying all the new things to not shopping. At all. After being bored and depressed about that for a while, one day I decided to snap out of it and started cutting out everything in my life that didn’t define me authentically or make me happy. That eventually brought me to my closet since clothing has always had a major role in the way I express myself. But that’s when I realized I hated almost all of the clothing in my closet. This shocked me because I had TONS of clothes.

It came to my attention that I’d been shopping blindly, clinging onto trends I thought I had to have, styles I had to own, etc. I wasn’t shopping authentically for me. I was just buying clothes. So I immediately began collecting anything and everything from my closet that I didn’t love, donated it all and was left with a very Tiny Closet. From that day forward, I decided I would ignore all the rules and only buy clothing I loved to wear. And also fully utilize the clothes I have before shopping for something more.

4. Who’s behind the camera taking all those wonderful photos of you?

My husband Media Design Elements :) He’s pretty darn talented and I’m very lucky to have his eye and expertise.

5. For many naturals it’s a journey to fully understand their hair. It’s a process of trail and error. What was your “Curls Understood™” moment?

The moment I felt like I owned my hair was when I stopped trying to style it and twist it and braid it and change it and I just let it do its thing. I finally accepted it for what it was and moved on with my life, lol! I think when you love something, you understand it.
