The Sartorialist

Don’t get it twisted. Scott Schuman is the guy who made street style photography what it is today. Sure he had predecessors, but long before Instagram made photography cool and accessible, Scott was capturing shots of everyday people exuding effortless coolness and shared them on his blog The Sartorialist.

Founder/blogger/photographer Scott Schuman began The Sartorialist with the idea of creating a two-way dialogue about the world of fashion and its relationship to daily life. Scott took to the streets in 2005 and photographed fashion-forward yuppies and hipsters on their way to fashion shows, book store openings and the like.

It wasn’t long before the blog took off and Scott hasn’t looked back since. The Sartorialist’s success has inspired multiple copy-cat sites and bloggers who use the street style phenomenon to capture their own daily fashion diaries.

Though Scott takes photos of people of all races and cultures, we’ve showcased a handful of his best curly-haired fashionistas.

In addition to the blog, Schuman’s work has been featured in GQVogue ItaliaVogue Paris, and Interview. Schuman has also shot and edited two of his own published books.
