Anyone who follows me on Instagram or follows my blog knows that I love Shea Moisture products and most of their products work very well in my hair. So when I heard that they released a Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO) line, I had to try it, especially because Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen Grow & Restore Styling Lotion is one of my favourite oils (after the original bae, coconut oil).
At first, I was a little apprehensive because I’m always a bit cautious of products that claim to work for all hair types (surely it can’t possibly work for everyone?!) but I decided to give it a shot. And I LOVED this product!!!
The instructions say to apply it to damp or dry hair so I applied it to damp hair in order to do a wash and go. The first thing that struck me was the slip! This product has amazing slip, which I wasn’t expecting because, as far as I know, it isn’t meant to be a detangling product. This helped a lot in terms of preventing tangling because my wash and go’s often get super tangled but this wasn’t a problem after using this product, which meant a shorter wash day afterwards. JOY!
I used it on a number of occasions to really make sure it worked. The first time was alone. The second time was on top of a leave in conditioner. The third time was after applying a leave in conditioner and shea butter. And all three times, it worked really well! My hair felt really soft, moisturised, fluffy and it had lots of volume (four things I love for my hair). I was just really surprised that a product intended for styling was such a multi-purpose product – good value for money in my book.
The only thing I didn’t like about this product was that my hair got quite frizzy pretty quickly each of the three times I used it. I don’t mind a bit of frizz but it was quite a lot of frizz for day 3 hair.
Overall, I would give this product a 9 out of 10!
