Rinse Out or Leave In: Conditioners Decoded

rinse out or leave in conditioners

Have you ever wondered whether you should use a Rinse Out Conditioner as a Leave In? Well take it from someone who actually does this 90% of the time, YES! As naturals we all know that conditioners do wonders for our hair. They soften it, make it easier to detangle, and add nutrients which is a huge advantage to being natural.

So why not use conditioner as a Leave in? This would be a great way to fill in the gaps when you’re out of your favorite leave in as well as possibly saving a little money buying one less product. Here are a few guidelines I would suggest you follow when using a conditioner as a leave in…

When choosing a conditioner I generally look for something that will number one, MOISTURIZE my hair and number two, DETANGLE it. A conditioner that does both is a winner! A definite staple. When using it as a leave in, there are a couple more requirements:

First, is the product light enough? I don’t want to put a very heavy Rinse out conditioner in my hair as a leave in. I want my hair to still be extra bouncy and easy to style. I would hate to cause extra build up in my hair. Especially since I don’t like to shampoo my hair very often.

Build up is not fun in the hair world. Next would be the consistency. I want to use a conditioner with a good amount of slip. This will allow for it to be worked in smoothly and be sucked up but my hair easily. Last but not least I don’t want to use a whole lot of the conditioner.

Depending on the consistency of the conditioner I will decided how much of it I want to use. With an actual leave in I like to drown my hair in it. When I use a conditioner as my leave in I pay much more attention to the amount Im actually applying to my hair. I want to apply just enough to feel the difference in my hair. To feel the product doing its job.

Clearly conditioner is a miracle product! To be able to use it as a co-wash, a regular conditioner, deep conditioner, AND a leave in is amazing. Conditioners are definitely number ONE in my book when it comes to my natural hair.

Still nervous? Here are some conditioners I suggest you try as a leave in. I’ve tried and used so many, but I’ll list a few of my favorites below:

• Shea Moisture Curl & Shine Conditioner
• Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner
• Triple Moisture Replenishing Conditioner
• The Mane Choice Detangling Hydration Conditioner
