3 Pinterest DIY Recipes That Actually Work

With so many ways to keep our natural hair beautiful, long, and strong, it can be hard to know which treatments and remedies are really worth trying. Pinterest DIYs have become increasingly popular, but how can you tell if any of these remedies actually work? Here are three treatments I learned from Pinterest that work, and work well.

1) DIY Hair Mask (originally pinned from mindbodygreen.com)

This simple hair mask is meant to serve as a weekly regimen that involves the easiest of ingredients to obtain; coconut oil, olive oil, honey, and an egg. This mask helps strengthen and moisturize your hair using the essential oils in the mask. All you have to do is mix them together, apply, then let it sit for 10 minutes. After you can rinse, shampoo, and condition like normal.

The bad news is that this concoction is gooey and messy. The good news is this mask left my hair feeling stronger and more moisturized.

2) DIY Pre-poo (originally pinned from thelovelyphotog.com)

In case you don’t know, a “pre-poo” is used before shampooing to detangle, fortify your roots, moisturize, and condition. This recipe calls for olive oil, coconut oil, mayonnaise, grape seed oil, apple cider vinegar, and shea butter oil.

The bad news is this mixture has an unpleasant scent. The good news is the scent fades once you start your normal shampooing routine. More good news, after letting it sit on your hair for 30 minutes, your hair will be softer, more manageable, and easier to style.

3) DIY Conditioner (originally pinned from WorldLifestyle.com)

This conditioner is fairly simple and uses a natural hair favorite, avocado. Mix an avocado with honey, egg yolks, and olive oil, then apply this mask and let it sit for about 15 minutes.

The bad news is if your avocado isn’t extremely ripe, this can be difficult to mix. The good news is that it works to moisturize, repair, and strengthen hair.

These three DIY recipes are great additions to your hair routine and the best part is they are all made with easy and obtainable ingredients. Everyone’s hair is different, so play with these mixtures until you get something your hair really likes. May these hair DIY recipes bring you joy and ease and your hair lots of love!
