ORS: Straightening & Strengthening Treatment Kit

8 Curly Hair

Easy DIY Product

A couple months ago I decided to try out the Straightening and Strengthening Kit by ORS. It’s a texture manageability treatment that softens hair by smoothing the cuticle without any chemicals. The kit is made with natural ingredients including coconut extract and aloe vera and uses amino acids to create a layer of protection around the hair cuticle. The kit claims to diminish frizz and add shine to both straight and curly hair types.

At first I was reluctant to try this product. It’s an at-home treatment but I took it to the salon anyway since I was a first-timer. The package contains three products that are to be applied in three steps.

Step 1: Shampoo

The first step is shampooing to make sure your hair is cleansed thoroughly. The shampoo foams a lot so even though it’s a small bottle, it’s more than enough. Make sure not to comb your hair after rinsing, it will cause a lot of tangles.

Step 2: Activator

Next you’ll divide your hair into four sections and work on one section at a time. Apply two or three pumps of the activator and detangle with a wide tooth comb. In my experience, it was a lot easier to start with the sections in the back.

The foam makes detangling a lot easier and just like the shampoo, a little goes a long way. After you’ve applied the activator throughout your hair, let it sit with a plastic cap to process.

Step 3: Leave-In Conditioner

Don’t rinse out the activator! Part your hair into four sections again, apply the leave-in conditioner, and comb it through from roots to ends. Again, make sure not to rinse out anything. Next, blow dry your hair and then you can start to flat iron.

To preserve this style, I slept on a satin pillowcase and covered my hair with a cap when I was outside. I left my hair straight for three weeks before washing again. My curls came back immediately and there was no heat damage.

For the next two months, I changed styles between curly and straight. The protective layer around the hair cuticle lasts for about 4-6 washes with a sulfate shampoo. If you decide to flat iron your hair again after the first wash, be sure to use a heat protector. You won’t need to use the kit again, just wash and condition your hair as usual.

To Summarize:

• No formaldehyde or other harsh chemicals in the Kit

• Diminishes frizz
• Creates shine, body and thickness to the hair
• Reduces overall styling and drying time
• Can also be used on color treated hair or transitions

This kit is easy to do yourself, but for my Dutch Naturalistas who would like to do it in a salon, I had it done at Beautysalon Mea Vota in Almere Centrum.
