Living the Natural Life: It’s More Than Just Hair

natural hair and holistic health

Though many of us have natural hair, how does natural hair and holistic health work together to make your hair and body healthier and stronger? Below I discuss how this transition worked for me.

GOING NATURAL

I have been natural for 2 years and 4 months now an ever since I decided to go natural my life has changed drastically. After years of relaxing my hair I woke up one morning and did my big chop, chopping off any relaxed hair I had left on my head. I did it because I was sick and tired of putting damaging chemicals in my hair. I will honestly say that it was a little hard at first but, after a few months I notice a big change in my hair. I started to see my hair’s natural texture, curl pattern and my hair became thicker and fuller. Two years later my hair has had amazing growth and it is the healthiest it has ever been.

THE CHANGE

Going natural has not only changed my hair, it has also changed my lifestyle. I decided If I am going to focus on the health of my hair I should also focus on my health as well. I started by changing my eating habits. I stopped eating junk food and focused on eating more clean. I cut down on sugar, carbs, fried, and processed foods and started eating more healthy and natural foods.

I live with my boyfriend and son and they too have better eating habits now because of the changes I made. I join the gym and started working out 3 to 4 days a week. I also go on hikes, walks and do more outdoor activities involving nature. I slimmed down, I am healthier, I am in shape, my skin is more radiant, I feel amazing and I have also become more confident.

PIN ME!

My beauty routine has changed for the better. I only use natural & organic hair care products which help keep my hair healthy. I haven’t used heat on my hair to avoid heat damage. As far as skincare I have always took very good care of my skin but, now I use more natural skincare remedies using ingredients like Manuka Honey, Aloe Vera, Tea Tree Oil, Rosehip Oil, and African Black Soap to name a few.

I always kept my makeup sheer, light and natural leaving my skin with a more radiant glow. I always felt the healthier your skin the less makeup you need. This year I am going to try using more natural, organic & vegan makeup products because I hear that it is better for the skin.

THE JOURNEY

Everyone comes to a point in their life when they want change for the better. It is called a lifestyle change and I believe that when a person goes natural it is deeper than hair. You’re on this natural hair journey that becomes a life changing experience. You become more aware of your health and way of living, your way of thinking becomes clearer, your lifestyle becomes healthier and more positive. Life changes the moment you decide you want it to change. Good luck on your journey!
