Layer On The Moisture: The L.C.O. Method

Even though the temperature is starting to rise the mornings can still be pretty cool. Step outside and instantly, you are smacked with a crisp cold drying air – especially if it’s windy. One of the most difficult times to deal with being Natural was Winter but Spring has its unique challenges. Aside from trying to hold on to any warmth that you can grasp, we struggle to hold on to moisture. Enter the L.C.O. Method (not to be confused with the L.O.C. Method).

My hair is naturally frizzy and takes on sponge-like tendencies. That is to say, moisture leaves my hair just as quickly as it enters it. Very frustrating! It feels as if I’m right back to square one constantly trying to chase down hair moisture nirvana. Then I was first introduced to the L.C.O. Method from via Youtube and a couple of natural hair blogs. About 2-3 months ago I started incorporating this method in my hair routine and I’ve seen amazing results!

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE L.C.O. METHOD?

It’s funny because it seems as if this method should be well-known but after discussing it with a couple of individuals; I realized a lot of people weren’t really aware of it’s benefits. It’s just three easy steps. Apply these types of products to your hair in this order.

• Liquid (Leave-In or Water)
• Cream
• Oil

That’s it! These 3 easiest steps include products every natural should already own. I use water, Shea Moisture’s Hold & Shine Moisture Mist, Shea Moisture’s Curl Enhancing Smoothie and finished off with Nutiva’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil.

I parted my hair into 4 sections and even parted those four sections into another two because my hair is so thick. I used these 3 products while detangling and finished off with styling my hair with flat twists. It doesn’t matter if you use this method on previously styled hair, you should still yield the same moisturizing results.

TIP: It may sound like the products are layering up on your hair but this is not an issue, especially when styling and receiving amazing results/definition. You can add a bit more cream after you have already applied the oil, if you feel that you need more product for your style. The oil and cream work together to bind and lock in the moisture that your leave in and water has provided.

My hair feels moisturized for up to a week, maybe even more (even when I’m experiencing the deathly cold winter in New York with no protective style in my hair). The L.C.O. Method has become a major part of my hair care routine. Don’t suffer through future winters or any season with dry strands. Try this method and enjoy moisturized softer curls every day.
