How To Make Make Natural Hairstyles Last

Twist Out Bob

Like many of you, I once suffered from hands-in-head syndrome. I was always styling, twisting, brushing, braiding, drying, curling, and applying SOMETHING to my hair. Needless to say, my curls began to suffer so despite my hands, I decided to keep them off my strands. I’m now an advocate for minimalistic styling.

I firmly believe that the best way to protect your natural hair is to just leave it alone. Sounds simple and it is very effective. One technique I use is wearing styles or at least variations of the same style for as long as I can before they start to look raggedy. I like to call these my “This or That” Styles. My favorite “This or That” hairstyle, the Goddess/Twist-Out Bob, is a style you are all going to LOVE.

What You Need (what I use)

1. Cowash (Miss Jessie’s Crème De La Curl)
2. Leave-in Conditioner (One’n’Only Argan Oil Curl Cream)
3. Natural Oil (Sonoma Harvest Organics Organic Coconut Oil)
4. Gel (Eco Styler Krystal Gel)
5. Wide Toothed Comb
6. Soft Bristle Brush

Instructions

Step 1. Start with freshly co-washed, slightly damp, and detangled hair.
Step 2. Apply your leave in and oil evenly throughout your hair.
Step 3. Give yourself a deep side part on your preferred side of your head.
Step 4. Apply gel to the edges of the larger section of hair and brush to smooth them down.
Step 5. Begin flat twisting the larger section from the part, across your forehead, and down to the opposite side of your head. Twist the hair all the way down to the ends. Apply gel to smaller section and begin twisting the opposite way to the back of the head.
Step 6. Take the ends of each twist and pin each of them discretely to their opposite sides at the back of your head.

I tied these twists down at night and was able to wake up and go in the morning for 3 days straight. On the morning of the 4th day, I transitioned this style into a banging Twist-Out Bob simply by taking the twists down with coconut oil on my hands, separating the curls, and fluffing. This Bob lasted me the next two days before wash day!

So there you have it ladies! One business week worth of hair after less than an hour of total styling time! Keep it simple and enjoy.
