5 Tricks To Prevent Frizzy Curls

how to avoid frizz on curly hair

Although some frizz on curly hair is unavoidable (and sometimes even desirable), if it’s not the look you’re going for the dreaded frizz that humidity can bring can be super annoying (we’re not walking the runway of a high fashion, avant-garde show!) Here are some tips on how to avoid frizz on curly hair. These tips will allow your hair to hold its curl throughout the week and get you past day 3 of freshly washed hair.

A Satin Pillowcase

Not only are they great for your skin, but satin pillowcases will help your hair slip and slide as opposed to snag like on a cotton pillowcases. Wearing a silk bonnet can prevents your scalp from “breathing” and in hotter months/climates the moisture can even cause mild cases of mold on your scalp. Prevent frizz and split ends by opting for a silk pillowcase instead.

Plait or Braid Your Hair at Night

Ladies with longer hair should always braid/plait their tresses loosely before bed. In the morning you can just un-braid, tussle your hair and add product. By plaiting your hair you prevent your curls from running wild throughout the night. Keep them tame by braiding and pinning them up.

Pineapple Your Hair at Night

If you have shorter hair, use a satin scarf or elastic (no-metal) hair tie to tie up your hair towards your forehead. A loose pineapple will prevent your hair from messing up overnight. In the morning, just let your locks loose and add a bit of moisturizer.

The L.O.C. Method

Many people are familiar with the “L.O.C. Method”, but by adding that last bit of oil to your curl routine, your hair will thank you. Natural oils such as avocado, jojoba and coconut will help to seal your hair and lock in moisture.

Wash Your Hair with Cold Water

Lightly spritz your hair with cold water will not only cause less breakage and damage to your hair by closing your hair cuticles, but it will help to lock in the moisture after a quick wash or wash-and-go.
