4 Tell-Tale Signs That It’s Time For A Trim

how do you know when it's time to trim natural hair

How do you know when it’s time to trim natural hair? It can be difficult to diagnose But if you listen (or look) carefully, your hair will do all the talking. It’s so important to trim your ends regularly so split ends don’t form. If your goal is to grow your hair, here are 4 tell-tale signs to look out for…

1.

Split Ends

Split ends are possibly the easiest sign to diagnose. Simply look closely at the ends of your hair. If your strands have separated (split) into two smaller strands, it is time for a trim. Note: There are no magic potion products that will mend split ends. Once they are split, they will only continue to split upward on the hair shaft if they are left untreated, infecting the rest of your fabulous fro.

2.

Breakage or Thinning At The Ends

Ever run your fingers through your hair and notice an unusual amount of shedding from the ends? Yes, seasonal shedding is normal, but if hair is literally falling into your palms specifically from the ends, it may be a sign that it’s time for a trim.

3.

No Curl Definition

Have you ever done a twist-out or bantu-knot out, or even a wash-and-go and things appeared to be going well at the crown, but your hair looked limp and lifeless on the ends? If your crown is full but your ends are stringy, and straight – chop, chop, chop.

4.

Ends Wont Stay Moisturized No Matter What Products You Use

You do the LCO, the LOC, the OPP, and your ends still won’t act R-I-G-H-T? If you’re packing on moisturizing products and the ends of your hair remain frizzy, dry, and brittle this is a clear sign that it time to part ways.

No one wants to accept when it’s time to trim the hair you’ve raised, nurtured, loved, and watched grow. *Sigh* But every now and again, it’s time for dead ends to leave the nest to make room for healthy hair to flourish. Trust me, you are better off ridding your mane of dead weight, than “retaining length” with struggling strands (and ruining perfect hairstyles- am I right?!).

When your ends are healthy, the overall health of your hair improves. Your curls appear more defined, and voluminous. So, if your locks are suffering from any of the above ailments, break out the hair scissors and get to work curlfriend.
