Must-Have Products

Ever since my first DevaCut, I have been hooked on DevaCurl products. Nothing else has touched these locks since. Already a devoted fan, I couldn’t imagine DevaCurl creating anything else that worked as well as their ‘No Poo,’ lather-free conditioning cleanser and ‘One Condition’ combination. I was wrong.

DevaCurl recently unveiled a new line, including two *new* products designed specifically for super curly/coily textures. A spin on the classic pair, No-Poo and One Condition Decadence are infused with chufa milk, quinoa protein, and grapeseed oil to provide the additional moisture and nourishment that super curly (read: kinkier) hair textures crave. Like all DevaCurl products, No Poo and One Condition Decadence are sulfate, silicone, and paraben free.

The first thing that struck me about Decadence was the name. I quickly found out just what was so “decadent” about these two gems: the scent, and the consistency. In typical DevaCurl fashion, the scent is very light, but distinct. It sort of smells like Johnson’s Baby Lotion, or baby powder, in the way that baby scented things are irresistible. The consistency of No Poo and One Condition Decadence is not too far off from the original formula. They are both very creamy, but are more rich, and smooth- very luxurious. My five senses approved, but did my hair agree?

I used the Decadence line several times before determining if it was a hit. The first few times, I used it alone (with no styling product) rinsing the One Condition Decadence out slightly and using the remaining conditioner as leave-in. Then, I began to use a little bit of styling cream on top for long- lasting curl definition. And boy… was it a hit!

devacurl decadence reviewTo test the No Poo Decadence accurately I used it after a week of wearing my hair slicked back or up, (lots of gel was used in the creation of these hairstyles). Using the No Poo Decadence, I gently scrubbed my scalp and brought the product down my hair shaft. I rinsed, and repeat twice. After the final rinse my scalp and strands were product-free, my hair felt like silk and my curls were already starting to define. DevaCurl is definitely true to its word that it will not strip your hair.

At this point, my shower was filled with the luxurious scent of Decadence and I couldn’t wait to indulge in the One Condition. I used One Condition Decadence like I do any other conditioner- generously. I applied the conditioner to my hair, all at once at first, and then added a small amount in sections. I let it sit while I showered (about 5 minutes, or one song on my iPod long) and then it was time to detangle and rinse. One Condition Decadence had great ‘slip,’ making detangling easy. I rinsed out the excess ONLY, leaving a good amount of the product on my hair to work with while my hair dried.

Once dry, my hair felt soft, looked moisturized, shiny, smelled amazing, and to my surprise had day 2 or 3 volume already! I have never used a product combination that gave me that kind of volume on day 1 with little to no frizz. There is nothing negative I can think to say about Decadence, even if I tried. Let’s just say if Decadence was running for president, it’s got my vote!

I purchased these two products, No-poo decadence and one condition decadence, after using the two for the first stime i followed up with a hair butter, curl cream, and leave-in conditioner. I then braided my hair and my result the following morning was amazing. However, after using the conditioner separately later in the week my hair felt so dry I couldn’t believe it. I immediately thought it was because my hair was colored but, when my sister used it she had the same result. I tried again and repeated my routine and ended up the same way, dry with defined curls. I heard great reviews about DevaCurl and was very disappointed especially because the review was on here. I wouldn’t reccommend this line to anyone
