So, I’m an all-the-way Shea Moisture girl, but when I was asked to review Curlisto’s Structura Lotion Plus, I was excited to give it a try. The first thing that really stood out to me about the product was how light-weight it felt in my hands. It was non-greasy and had just the right amount of slip.
The Curlisto product line was developed by celebrity stylist and owner of Christo Fifth Avenue Salon, Christo, dubbed “The King of Curls,” by The Wall Street Journal and Women’s Wear Daily. The product line features masques and sprays, cleansers, conditioners, styling creams and styling lotions.
Structura Lotion Plus ($28) is designed for use on clean, wet hair, acting as a leave-in conditioner for soft, frizz-free curls. The product packaging states that the lotion “activates the curl memory of the hair shaft.” This styling lotion is alcohol-free and defines, controls and softens curls. “Curlisto focuses on nourishing the hair with ingredients that specifically remedy curly hair challenges.” One of the challenges that I face as a curly girl is product build-up in my natural hair and curly hair extensions, so I put Structura Lotion Plus to work on both. First, I used the product for a wash & go style, and then after having my Big Chop Hair extensions installed, I styled my hair into a two strand twist-out. Here are the results:
Wash & Go Results
I almost never wear my natural hair out because I have to restyle and redefine my curls every night. Wash & go styles have never been an option for me, but I wanted to get the full experience of Structura Lotion Plus. After washing my hair, I sectioned it into six sections, applied product and combed it through from roots to end. I could immediately see the definition of my curl pattern compared to the hair without any product on it. The full length of my curls were stretched while my hair was still wet, with normal shrinkage after air drying. . The finished product was a head full of springy coails. My hair did not feel greasy, dry or crunchy, in fact, it just felt clean. I was impressed by the definition, softness and cleanliness of my curls and may even consider wearing a wash and go more often after using this product.
Two-Strand Twist Out Results
After wearing my hair with Big Chop Hair extensions for about two weeks, I decided to put Structura Lotion Plus to the test by using it to style my weave with a two-strand twist-out. In comparison to my normal use of Shea Moisture products, which shrink the length of this hair considerably, the lotion from Curlisto maintained the volume, definition and length of my curls. It was also a major plus that I could just spritz my hair extensions with water to revive the definition of the curls each morning.
Overall
The product delivered in every area that it stated: anti-frizz, alcohol-free, defines, controls and softens curls. The product is a bit pricey, especially for those that simply want to try the product for the first time, but with this styling lotion, a little went a long way.
