Beauty of the Week: Staci Pearson

New Jersey based blogger Staci Pearson is the founder of Coco And Click – a blog which showcases style that doesn’t break your pockets. Our kind of style! We picked Staci as this week’s Beauty because we love how versatile she is with her hair. From straight natural hair to curly updos, Staci’s hair changes as much as her outfits.

1. Why did you go natural? How long have you been natural?

I have been “natural” all of my life. I have never had a perm. I texturized my hair once in 7th grade and dyed it once in high school. Although I wasn’t using chemicals in my hair on a regular basis, I applied heat to my hair daily. Last May, I started my natural journey by embracing my curls and natural state. From May to September 2014, I embarked on a no heat journey, challenging myself to discover products, regimens, and styles that worked for me. In October to present day, I embarked on another no heat journey, challenging myself to retain moisture and seeking knowledge to get through these colder months! It’s brutal, lol.

2. Can you summarize your current hair regimen?

Currently while trying to retain moisture during the Winter, I am using Cantu shampoo & conditioner for a thorough cleanse probably every 3 weeks. I have used Cantu’s Co-Wash in between shampoos. I’m trying not to wash my hair, as much this Winter, because I read it strips your hair. So, I’ve only really been washing when the product is built up and my scalp is itchy. After washing and conditioning, I use my t-shirt to dry my hair. I have been altering between the LOC method and LCO method. I think the LCO method works best for me, using Cantu’s Leave In Conditioner, Coconut & Olive Oil, and Shea Moisture’s Curl Enhancing Smoothie. Whether twist outs or wash and go’s, I find myself spraying my hair (with water & olive oil) before bed to keep my curls moisturized. Pineapple or tie in a silk scarf at night, shake in the morning & go!

3. What are your staple hair products?

Cantu’s Leave In Conditioner, hands down! All good hair days & new protective styles start with this product. Also, Olive Oil is doing wonders for my hair this Winter.

4. What are your favorite hairstyles?

Wash and go’s are my favorite in the Summer. It’s no fuss and all fun when I can just go outside and allow my hair to air dry. But, I have grown to obsess over Twist Outs. I have practiced and perfected the results so, this makes my unpredictable curls very reliable!

5. For many naturals it’s a journey to fully understand their hair. It’s a process of trial and error. What was your “Curls Understood™” moment (the moment you felt like, “I’ve got this!” or any essential advice you wish you had known at the beginning of your hair journey)?

Yes, it is! You hit the nail on the head with “a journey to fully understand” and “a process of trial and error.” I would have to say my “Curls Understood™” moment was once I nailed my twist out. Once I had a style and look that I could go to that was neat and presentable … I took one big sigh of relief. It’s taken me my entire life (up until now) to have this moment. I was the girl tugging on my curls and crying while trying to brush out my waves as a child. So, to have a go to style, with go to products, and a confidence that I can conquer my curls instead of them conquering me … CHECK AND CHECK! My Curls are finally Understood!
