Beauty of the Week: Samantha Williams

kinky coily natural hair

Samantha is a force to be reckoned with. She has been natural all her life making her a natural hair veteran and you can see why when you visit her Instagram profile page. So many beautiful and inspiration photos for women with Kinky hair. Read on to learn how Samantha keeps her tresses at their best…

1. Why did you go natural? How long have you been natural?

I have been natural all my life. Growing up, my parents didn’t want to pay for the upkeep of a relaxer so they said I couldn’t get one. As I got older I just ended up staying natural, so all together I have been natural 33 years.

2. Can you summarize your current hair regimen?

I usually wash/condition my hair every two to three weeks, then I will do two-strand twists in my hair and wear those for about two weeks.

3. What are your staple hair products?

Shampoo: Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Shampoo
Conditioner: Infusium 23 Moisture Replenishing Conditioner
Deep Conditioner: Aubrey Organics GPB Conditioner and Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise Moisturizing: Qhemet Biologics Amla and Olive Heavy Cream
Styling Products: Aethiopika Hair Butter.

4. What are your favorite hairstyles?

I usually wear two-strand twists most of the time. I like to pin them up, especially in the warmer weather. I do wear twist outs for special occasions or when the weather is a little cooler.

5. For many naturals it’s a journey to fully understand their hair. It’s a process of trial and error. What was your “Curls Understood™” moment (the moment you felt like, “I’ve got this!” or any essential advice you wish you had known at the beginning of your hair journey)?

I think my “Curls Understood™” moment was when I realized that I didn’t know everything there was to know about my hair… meaning that I’m always learning something new about my hair. This journey is never ending. Being natural all my life doesn’t mean that I know it all and I have made plenty mistakes on this hair journey. I can learn something from someone who has been natural 2 years or from someone who has just BC’ed. I would say there is always room to learn things about your hair so you can have a good healthy hair journey.
