Beauty of the Week: Lisa Lonewolf

curly natural hair

We defy you to look at Lisa’s head of blonde curls and funky-glam style and not say “bravo!” With her unique sense of style it comes as no surprise to us that she’s a pop singer. We first spotted Lisa, aka Lisa Lonewolf, on Instagram and have been jamming to her music ever since.

1. Why did you go natural? How long have you been natural?

I’ve been natural my whole life. I live in a small town in north western Wisconsin, there aren’t a lot of beauty supply stores or pressure for me to look a certain way. The way I was raised, my parents always encouraged me to have my own identity and I learned to embrace my hair pretty early in life.

2. Can you summarize your current hair regimen?

My hair texture changes with the seasons so it’s hard to give a definite answer, but I wash my hair about once a week, I add product as necessary. I use a lot of texurizers and volumizers in my hair. My hair is very light and fluffy so that helps control it without needing to use oily gels. I don’t deep condition my hair I just have two different types of shampoo and one conditioner that I use about once a week like I said before!

3. What are your staple hair products?

The texurizer/volumizer that I use is by Curly Sexy Hair. I also use a mousse by them that is awesome as well. I also love the brand Curls, they make awesome styling paste for updos and a great cream that I use on my damp hair daily. And then last but not least I love Shea Moisture. They rock! I use their shampoo and their curl creams for thick curly hair work greayt.

4. What are your favorite hairstyles?

I have one hairstyle, well two I guess. Down and curly, or in a ponytail, LOL. I am really bad at hair styles and my hair is still short so I just stick to my curly fro for now.

5. For many naturals it’s a journey to fully understand their hair. It’s a process of trial and error. What was your “Curls Understood™” moment (the moment you felt like, “I’ve got this!” or any essential advice you wish you had known at the beginning of your hair journey)?

NOT ALL BRANDS THAT SAY THEY ARE FOR CURLY HAIR ARE FOR CURLY HAIR!!!! I began reading the ingredients of hair products in the isles. I began to realize just how much alcohol some brands put in products that are supposedly for curly hair. Alcohol will immediately dry your hair out and make it unhappy. After cutting out all the brands that had excessive amounts of bad stuff in their ingredients, my hair transformed!

I really had to take it upon myself to understand MY hair. Just because someone else’s hair looks like yours it really could be different. Hair is weird and it’s not all the same so you really have to understand what you have naturally in order to decide what products you should get to assist your curls to look polished and clean.

Don’t give up on your hair! The right products are out there, I figured it out on my own after 21 years. If there are any young readers or mothers of young readers don’t let yourself give up!!!! Love what God gave you. Some people pay big money to have hair like you and; you got it for free.
