5 Tips To Love Your Hair Texture & Stop Comparing Your Curls

accepting your natural hair texture

I know the struggle, I’ve been there. You see that gorgeous hair, this beautiful twist out, this beautiful bun of shiny healthy hair. But you are still transitioning or you just big chopped and you feel desperate. You want everything now; you want that healthy beautiful hair now. The thing is that natural hair is a work in progress. And patience is going to be your best friend. During this process I have learned 5 tips on accepting your natural hair texture:

1
Be Smart
First, start following people on social media and YouTube that have YOUR hair texture or very close too. There is no point of watching videos of someone that you can’t relate too. I’m not saying you should NEVER follow people with different hair, but for the time being, this part of your journey, and for you to feel better- don’t.

2
Find Inspiration
Look for new hairstyles that you can try so that you don’t feel stuck with a particular hairstyle. Even if your hair is short, add an accessory so that it changes a little! You do not need to do much for you to feel good. I usually find inspiration on Pinterest, it’s really useful!

3
Pin It!
Make an hair inspiration board! I think it helped me a lot! I would find girls on Pinterest, or Instagram with my hair hair texture/length, or an hairstyle that I wanted to try and print it, pin it up on a board ! First, it helps visually, more than on a phone in my opinion. And when you see these pictures you feel better about yourself, you know what your goal is (healthy hair) and you keep your eyes on it!

4
Engage!
If you don’t have anybody in your family that is natural, then find new people and go out of your comfort zone. They are plenty of blogs where women share their tips and experiences, struggles and then you know your are not on your own. You know that everybody is going through the same thing and that it is part of the process. You can also learn new tips and tricks on how to take care of you hair that you might never thought of!

5
Think!
Why are you going natural? What is your motivation? If you truly understand why you’re natural is going to help you keep your eyes on the prize! You should not separate your hair with your motivation! Don’t forget that, success takes strength, you’ve done most of the work already: deciding to go natural was a big step.
