Whether you’re transitioning, thinking about transitioning or you’re already a naturalista, there are a few essentials that are necessary to make your natural hair journey a lot easier which will be beneficial in the long run (trust me, I know). These natural hair tools for beginners are affordable and can be found pretty much everywhere from your local beauty supply store, pharmacy or even an online retailer.
1 Wide Tooth Comb
Using a wide tooth comb will always come in handy when you’re detangling. It’s is important to get a comb with wider teeth over the usual/ normal comb because it helps to eliminate breakage while detangling and it is less likely to get stuck in your hair.
2 Satin Scarf/Bonnet
It is super duper important to have a SATIN scarf for the purpose of preserving your hair while you sleep because it helps to seal in moisture which can be “sucked out” by your cotton pillowcase. I emphasized on the word satin because unlike cotton, this will not dry your hair out while you sleep. And why not make it cute? The patterned one above is from H&M on sale for $7!
5 Spray Bottle
As a natural, water will be your new best friend; especially during the summer when humidity is your worst enemy! I always mix a little conditioner with water in the bottle and spray my hair before I leave the house because it adds moisture to my hair that lasts all day.
4 Curl Creams/Activators
Curling creams and activators help to define your curls especially when you have a wash and go. You do not have to get the one shown in the photo above. Do your research and find one that suits you best!
5 Bobby Pins
Bobby pins are great for styling and helps to control hair strands that would not stay in place.
