What is a natural’s kryptonite? Puffy edges, frizzes, and tangled messes. No one wants either of them, therefore, many of us curly ladies have spent hours watching YouTube videos and reading countless reviews on what is the best product to slay those edges. My edges are like uncontrollable teenager’s, they do what they want and could care less about your plans.
I often find myself needing to reapply edge control a few hours after the initial application, and that just ain’t cool. Beyoncé may have hot sauce in her bag, but I’ve got edge control in mine.
I relied on social media natural to suggest the best edge control for Kinky 4C texture hair. I took it upon myself to review two different edge control products to tame my Kinky 4C textured hair: Crème of Nature’s Perfect Edges with Argan Oil from Morocco, and Mane Choice’s Edge Control.
My mission was to find a product that would give medium to extra hold, yet wouldn’t give the heavy build up and leave my hair feeling dry. I judged products based on three factors: texture, length of hold, and build up. I decided the best way to test it out was apply at the same time on each side of my head over two days, on two separate hairstyles.
Since I am a low maintenance natural, meaning I don’t like to comb my hair or style it much, I typically wear my hair in a high puff, or an afro; both styles require sleek edges for a more tamed look. The first day I applied both products to freshly washed and detangled hair. I often style my hair when wet or damp due to my hair being extremely thick, so it’s more manageable.
Curls’ Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste
My go-to edge control for the past year has been Curls Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste, which gives a light hold, has a slippery non-tacky texture, and light to medium build up. I rarely need to wash my hair the next day after applying Curls edge control.

The Mane Choice’s Growth Stimulating Edge Control
In comparison, I prefer The Mane Choice’s Growth Stimulating Edge Control over Crème of Nature since it had less slip, and didn’t feel as oily. I thought the Mane Choice having a thicker consistency would leave residue, but to my surprise, I was able to blend it into my hair easily, weather my hair was wet or dry. I went the whole day without needing to reapply Mane Choice while wearing my puff, so I give it a 9/10 rating.

Crème of Nature’s Perfect Edges with Argan Oil from Morocco
Crème of Nature felt more oil based, hence the Moroccan oil, so it leaves your hair moisturized with lite build up. It clumped my curls together more than it laid my edges down, and for that reason I gave it a 6/10 rating. Overall, I would prefer to use Mane choice for sleek edges and long lasting wear, but enjoyed Crème of Nature when I’m wearing styles that don’t need tamed edges, and maybe you just need to curl a few coils or tame frizz.

Oh wow, kinda wish they sold these where I am at. When my hair was longer I tried Palmers Coconut oil edge gel, and I wasn’t really a fan
