3 Deep Conditioners Curly Textures Should Try

deep conditioners for curly hair

Deep Conditioning is an important component of your curly hair regimen. Heck, standard conditioning is an important component of your curly hair routine. We all know curls need moisture to thrive and deep conditioning regularly will help to revive thirsty hair. However, finding the right deep conditioner can be quite a task. Here are 3 of my favorite deep conditioners for curly hair – they help my hair stay hydrated, strong, and healthy.

DevaCurl Heaven In Hair Treatment

How I Use It

Once a week, after cleansing, I apply a generous (almost a handful) throughout my wet hair. I finger detangle to ensure the product is evenly distributed and then let it sit for 15 minutes (yep, that’s all the time this stuff needs to work its magic). Then I rinse, style and air-dry.

Why I Love It

The consistency is rich and creamy, so it’s easy to distribute throughout my hair, and even easier to detangle with. After rinsing my hair feels like silk. Once dry, my hair is soft, shiny and manageable with maximum moisture and hydration that lasts all day. Once dry my curls are bouncy, shiny and in much better shape than they were before. It is 100% sulfate, paraben, silicones, paraffin, and mineral oil free. That means the product is not sitting on top of your hair creating an illusion of moisture like conditioners that contain silicones. This stuff is the real deal.

Cons

The only negative thing about this product is the price. At $24.95 for an 8 oz jar, it costs a pretty penny. But if you’re ever willing to splurge, go for it. You won’t be sorry.

Shea Moisture Yucca & Plantain Anti-Breakage Strengthening Masque

How I Use It

Twice a week, after cleansing I apply a generous amount throughout my wet hair and finger detangle to evenly distribute the masque. I cover my hair with a plastic cap and sit under a hooded dryer for 15 minutes. I then rinse, style and air-dry (I always air-dry if I have the time).

Alternate Use (For Wash & Go’s): After cleansing, and conditioning, I apply a fair amount as a styler through wet hair, finger detangling to distribute evenly, then let my hair air-dry.

Why I Love It

Once dry, my hair is virtually frizz-free. Fly away curls are tamed and my curls clump together beautifully. Dry, brittle ends are moisturized. It doesn’t make my hair crunchy or stiff, rather my hair dries soft and bouncy.

Cons

The consistency is very thin compared to your typical deep conditioner. Which is why I am not hesitant to use it as a styling product although that is not what it is intended for. I prefer a richer consistency for hydrating or repairing treatments. But it definitely stops frizz in its tracks like no other product can.

Camille Rose Naturals Algae Renew Deep Conditioning Mask

How I Use It

Once weekly, after cleansing, I apply a generous amount of the product to wet hair. I let it sit for 10 minutes, soaking in steam from the shower. Then I detangle while rinsing. Next I style and I’m good to go.

Why I Love It

The first few ingredients are water, aloe vera juice, shea butter, and manuka honey, plus this stuff is infused with blue green algea and biotin, which is said to reduce thinning, breakage, and shedding. It smells divine – almost like chocolate – and the smell lasts for quite a while after rinsing. After my first use alone, I noticed significantly less breakage and shedding.

Cons

The consistency is super thick like raw shea butter. It is almost impossible to distribute throughout your hair without some extra effort. So much so, that I detangle my hair under lightly running water when using this product. Not only to get it through all sections of my hair, but to also make sure it’s all out when it’s time to rinse. But I’m willing to over look the extra work for what it does.
